Parenting my children is one of the most challenging, exhausting, and stressful commitments I have made in my life. And of course, it is also the most life affirming, joyful, and meaningful investments I can make in my life. After having my first kid, I realized that I have so much to learn about myself as a person and as a mother. As a new mother, I shocked myself with out quick my anger could rise up and how easy it was to lose my cool when my baby boy threw tantrums or messed up the house. Luckily for me, I also realized that it was not his fault and that it was my responsibility as a parent to work on myself and learn more effective parenting skills.

Fast forward to last year when I have my second baby. I am older, wiser, more experienced. I have also been practicing mindfulness meditation and teaching. And I have acquired many new positive parenting skills. Being able to stay present and compassionate for my kids most of the time help me appreciate and enjoy them so much more. Having the tools to guide myself and them through difficult moments enhance my confidence and curiosity. And they continue to generously and wholeheartedly teach me how to be a better person and mother everyday. Sure, they push my buttons, but I am usually mindful enough to recognize that those “buttons” are mind to examine and transform, not an excuse to blame and lash out at my kids. For the times I forget to be mindful and raise my voice at them, they forgive me quickly and give me more chances to do better. They freely share their joy, trust, and courage with me so I can nurture them and learn from them.

I am forever grateful that I was chosen to be your mama. There truly is no higher honor and blessing I can wish for in this life.
